Last minute trips are not usually something that I indulge in, as quite frankly I normally book around 12 weeks ahead for various trips, visits, activities, life chore weekends – which I often refer to as ‘time to potter about about’.

So out came the phone and before I could think my thumb was already hovering on the Airbnb app.

I don’t do birthdays 

I like to celebrate.

That is a statement of fact and a personal mantra. Birthdays, Christmas, new jobs, babies, weddings, new friends, old friends, moving home, coming home, holidays you name it i’ll find a away to celebrate it. So as August approached I knew it was time to start planning. It wasn’t a milestone or an especially important one, but it was a birthday and it was our first together. On top of that, I am with the ultimate anti birthday individual on the planet. The Chilli Pickle: a time for friends

 

So today marks what would have been a very dear friends 31st birthday, so in a change of tradition as previously it would have been a day of wallowing and feeling sad, we decided to celebrate. After all he was known for being irritatingly upbeat and unfazed by bad news! New found gem

Whilst on a walk to explore the surroundings of my new abode we discovered quite possibly one of the best ‘happen upons’ ever! The MARKET Restaurant & Bar is a must visit place if you ever find yourself inexplicably wondering the streets of Hove on a morning/lunchtime/mid afternoon/evening – to be quite honest any time of the day meander.

Having been drawn in by the striking green tiled exterior we settled into a table parallel to the long bar. Having ummed and ahhhed long enough I settled on the standard brunch option – eggs benedict whilst my manlier half opted for the more adventurous american pancakes, crispy wild boar bacon and frangelico syrup.
