Salvage: A perfect brunch

I left the flat this weekend! Only briefly and under a certain amount of duress but I went, despite it being freezing and the flat being lovely and cosy and a place to hide until Monday. I went under one condition though, that we could go to my favourite place for a coffee, that also happens to be just round the corner!

I love it! There are so many things to look at and to wonder at. I love the fact you can pick one of the jumbled table and chairs, place your order and then sit and admire the wonderfully  eclectic mix of new and old and bought and made items on display. Ladders adorn the walls creating storage for a selection of records, dried roses hang from branches suspended from the ceiling, stained glass pop art hangs in the window whilst spoons can be found in the ornate glass panel in the door. Trumpets are used like embellishments to cover the walls whilst the counter is covered in glass cloche’s revealing enough cakes and treats to meet almost anyones dietary requirements.   Continue reading

Brunch: Brighton

Brunch is the compromise that you don’t have to wait for.

I love brunch! Brunch with visiting family, brunch with old friends, brunch with new friends, brunch in bed (yes that is acceptable on a weekend), brunch, brunch, brunch. The Chilli Pickle: a time for friends

 

So today marks what would have been a very dear friends 31st birthday, so in a change of tradition as previously it would have been a day of wallowing and feeling sad, we decided to celebrate. After all he was known for being irritatingly upbeat and unfazed by bad news! So what better way to celebrate a friendship and remember the good times than to go for a gin based cocktail and a delicious meal.

New found gem

Whilst on a walk to explore the surroundings of my new abode we discovered quite possibly one of the best ‘happen upons’ ever! The MARKET Restaurant & Bar is a must visit place if you ever find yourself inexplicably wondering the streets of Hove on a morning/lunchtime/mid afternoon/evening – to be quite honest any time of the day meander.

Having been drawn in by the striking green tiled exterior we settled into a table parallel to the long bar. Having ummed and ahhhed long enough I settled on the standard brunch option – eggs benedict whilst my manlier half opted for the more adventurous american pancakes, crispy wild boar bacon and frangelico syrup.
